QUAD ESL 2912X : A Masterclass in Electrostatic Audio
When Quad founder Peter Walker debuted the world’s first full-range electrostatic loudspeaker in 1957, he didn’t just launch a product — he sparked a revolution. Today, that pioneering spirit lives on in the ESL 2812X and 2912X.
Both models build on decades of refinement. At their core: impossibly thin Mylar film panels, suspended between perforated metal plates and coated in a high-resistance conductive layer. The result? A level of detail and airiness few speakers can touch.
Internally, the electronics have been reengineered into three independent modules — High-Voltage Multiplier, Control & Protection, and Low-Voltage Audio — each powered by UK-built audio transformers. This tri-modular system enhances signal dynamics and sharpens performance, especially in the mid and high ranges.
The ESL 2812X is tailored for intimate spaces. The larger 2912X is made to fill the room. Both come wrapped in sleek black with LED underlighting — a modern nod to one of audio’s most iconic legacies.
